Corduroy Rabbit est. 2017
Hello! Tell us a little bit about yourself & your business:
Hi! I'm Faye, I am 25 years old & I own Corduroy Rabbit. I have been running the business alongside my full-time day job for just over 3 years now. I've always loved crafts and feel blessed that I have been able to set up the business to sell my crafts to lovely customers.
Where is Corduroy Rabbit based?
I am based in Liverpool & often attend fairs in the local Merseyside area and also sell online on Etsy.
Why did you start your own business?
I started my business back in 2017 whilst working part-time to fill my days off, utilising my passion for crafting and to start selling the number of things I was making and it has just evolved from there.
What sort of products do you make/sell?
Cards, gift tags, wreaths, cake toppers, ornaments & much more.
You don't have just one particular item or style for your products, so what is your favourite thing to make?
To be honest, I like trying lots of different things which is why I have such a wide product range so I'm not sure I would be able to choose one single item as my favourite. Some things I really enjoy making but they don't turn out so well, and others have such a painfully long process, but turn out amazingly.
Has Corduroy Rabbit been affected by Covid-19 and/or the regional & national lockdowns? And if so, how?
I have been furloughed a fair bit from my day job over this year, and so although there has been a struggle nationally, I have used the time wisely and put everything into getting my business out there which I never really had time to do for the first two years and I am so proud of my progress & how its built my confidence in my brand.
How do you find a work/life balance that works?
It can be hard to switch off, and I often find myself working on Corduroy Rabbit during my breakfast, lunch & at bedtime on my working days.
Social media in itself feels like a full-time job, and that's before I've even sat to make stock to sell.
I love being busy, however, I make sure I have some down time, no phone at the dinner table and keep in contact with friends & family.
Who inspires you?
My Nan & Grandad are amazing, my Nan loves her knitting & my Grandad can make absolutely anything - I actually have a collab in the works with him which I am just adding the finishing touches to.
And my big sister, she's my number one fan & she never fails to give me some inspiration when I need it.
Do you have any advice for anyone wanting to start their own business?
Just go for it, express your talents & passions! It is a lot of hard work running a business solo and you have to put in the time and effort into it to reap the benefits.
